UMEA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Umea School of Business (USBE), one of Sweden’s five business schools, is a campus school. Although it was founded in 1989, education and research in business date back to 1966. The school offers four Bachelor programs, seven Master’s programs, doctoral programs, and a large number of courses, with a total enrolment of approximately 1,500 students.
Research in business administration in the fields Accounting / Finance / Auditing, Entrepreneurship, Management and Marketing is well developed.
USBE’s 100 faculty members have established an extensive network in the business community and have vast experience working closely with private and public organizations in both research and teaching.
International exchange is an important component of student life at USBE. Our 66 partner universities around the world send students to Umea every year, and 45% of our business school graduates have spent one or two semesters abroad as part of their curricula.
Umea, known as The City of Birches, is the capital of northern Sweden and the center for higher education and administration in this large region. The Governor of the region resides in Umea, and the city boasts a strong university with its own teaching hospital. There is a dynamic industrial sector in Umea consisting of major industries and many smaller firms representing information technology, biotechnology, and other industrial products.
Winter in Umea brings snow, with many opportunities for winter sports. Summers are mild to warm, with a wonderful coastal climate. Umea is a center for cultural activities, with annual film, jazz, and chamber music festivals, and is the home of the world’s northernmost opera house.
Umea is also a young city: The avarage age of its 110,000 inhabitants is 36 years.
