The School / The City:
Welcome to the University of Cologne
Welcome to one of the most famous and - with about 45.000 students - also one of the most popular German universities in the very heart of Europe. The University of Cologne with its seven faculties offers students an enormous variety in choice and combination of courses and subjects. Students who expect and fulfill high standards at the university, will find best studying conditions here.
The success of an academic institution is also contingent upon its environment. Three major research institutes (the Atomic Research Centre in Julich, the German Research Institute of Air and Space Travel in Porz, the Society of Mathematics and Data Processing in St. Augustin) and three Max Planck Institutes (of cultivation research, neurological research and social research) are located in the vicinity and participate in fruitful exchanges with university academics. In addition, Cologne is home to eight other colleges and universities including the German College of Physical Education, the State College of Music and the Media Art School, founded in 1989. All in all, the number of students in Cologne totals approximately 85,000. The work and study opportunities which this research and further education capacity offers to both academics and students is available in only a few locations in Europe.
